Attaquer / Gutter Rats

Attaquer is arguably one of the brands most responsible for modernising the global cycling apparel world. They have consistently added an edge to an otherwise sanitised sporting category. So, when it was time to create a new racing team under their banner, I aimed to embrace everything that defines them. The name, the aesthetic, and the overall attitude are designed to be both memorable and perhaps questionable.

Representing the grimy streets of Sydney’s Inner West, the rat emerged as the perfect animal totem. Red and black, metal and tattoos, and a nod to the underworld, the Gutter Rats identity came together effortlessly.

Something of a signature to any kit design I have a hand in will be an abstract texture of some kind. And for the Gutter Rats I wanted to create something that contrasted well with the bold black & red of the jersey.

Over the years there have also been many run-and-gun, highly improvisational, photoshoots for new product releases, branded collaborations, or documentary-style coverage of cycling adventures.
